changing the evangelical conversation about sex
Learning from evidence so that you, your church, or your ministry can provide life-giving, research-based, Jesus-centered teachings on marriage and sex.
Thank you for purchasing this webinar and handout series on evidence based, biblical teachings on sex for the church!
The information in the videos and downloads on this page is based on the research of Sheila Wray Gregoire, Joanna Sawatsky, and Rebecca Lindenbach. These products include data from surveys consisting of over 33,000 respondents, and a more in-depth report of the findings can be found in the books The Great Sex Rescue (Baker, 2021), The Good Girl’s Guide to Great Sex (Zondervan, 2022), The Good Guy’s Guide to Great Sex (Zondervan, 2022), and She Deserves Better (Baker, 2023).
We believe that Jesus meant what he said, that a good tree cannot bear bad fruit (Matthew 7:18) and that he wants us to have life and life abundant (John 10:10). We thank you for helping with the goal of discerning good from bad fruit when it comes to what we’ve so commonly taught about sex, and for bringing hope for the people in your ministry, your church, and your life.
Each of these links will take you to a handout with a summary of the results of common evangelical teachings on the topic. You’ll also find helpful information on what to say instead, how to counteract these toxic messages, and a biblical, evidence-based, Christ-like way forward!
Many of the best-selling books in evangelical spaces have been producing some pretty bad fruit. Despite good intentions to help marriages, there are toxic teachings that have brought damage and harm to readers in virtually every one of our best-sellers in the evangelical church. The good news is that together we can change this story and change the conversation–and help right the wrongs done, even if unintentionally!
As a church, we have all been responsible to varying degrees of propping up harmful, un-Christlike teaching that has left many people seriously damaged in its wake. But we remember Proverbs 28:13, “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy,” and we praise God that he accepts our repentance, and is a God who delights in bringing life where there was nothing but death.
We believe strongly in the redemptive, life-giving, merciful love of God and we invite you to read these one-sheets soberly and join us in an ongoing work of repentance and humility as we follow our Lord by caring for “the least of these.”
