Can You Help with Reaching Spanish Speaking Communities with The Great Sex Rescue?

Great Sex Rescue in Spanish

We know there’s a great need for The Great Sex Rescue in Spanish.

Every week I hear from women who are wondering about how to get our material to their friends/family members in Latin America, or in Latin American communities in the U.S.

Love & Respect is translated into Spanish and sells very well. It’s used in a lot of Latin American churches–likely even more than it’s used in English speaking churches.

Pretty much all the toxic books we’ve looked at, that are starting to go out of favour in English speaking churches, are still really popular in Spanish speaking churches.

Women in these communities need our materials.

The problem is we can’t get a publisher to take us.

Here’s what usually happens with books like ours (and what already happened with Love & Respect and others): A Spanish speaking publisher finds out about our book, and buys the rights to publish it from our publisher (in this case, Baker Books). They translate it, design it, and produce it, and then they distribute it throughout Latin America.

It’s already happened, for instance, in Portuguese. The Great Sex Rescue is being used in Brazil and selling well there!

Several of my other books have been translated into Spanish over the years.

My agent and publisher both say that it’s strange for a book that has sold as well as The Great Sex Rescue to not be able to find a Spanish publisher. But the response that we have gotten from publishers is “there is no market for the book in Latin America.”

Which is laughable.

Because if there’s a market for Love & Respect, you know there’s going to be a market for The Great Sex Rescue to clean up the mess!

But it’s been speculated that publishing in Latin America is very male dominated, and so they’re steering clear from this.

And that’s why…

We’re thinking of publishing The Great Sex Rescue ourselves.

We’d pay to get it translated, and edited, and designed, and produced, etc.

And then somehow we’d have to get the word out, which is really difficult since we’re all in Canada and don’t speak Spanish.

But we also know this is a huge market that desperately needs this book, and I hear from so many people regularly who need it and want it (especially on the mission field, where fellow missonaries are giving out Love & Respect).

And so, quite frankly, we need your help.

We can’t do this alone, because it’s a huge undertaking that’s going to be expensive. And we need other people’s expertise.

You know what a difference The Great Sex Rescue has made in your life, and the lives of the women around you. You know how much it’s done to change the evangelical conversation about sex and marriage.

Imagine the impact in a culture which leans even more heavily into a lot of these toxic messages, where women are hurting just as much, if not more.

Imagine how great a resource this could be for women who are already trying to do the work of changing the conversation in Latin America!

So, here are two ways you can help:

1. Help us raise money to publish the book

It’s going to have a high price tag, and we’d love it if you could join us in this. You can give through The Good Fruit Faith Initiative of the Bosko Foundation, which gives tax-deductible receipts within the United States (I’m sorry we don’t have tax deductions available in other countries yet. We’re working on it!).

As you consider your end of year giving, please consider us and helping us in this! We think we’ll need about $15,000 USD at least to cover translation and then design, production, and distribution. We’re hoping that will be made back in sales, and if it is, then the money we make can be plowed back into translating into other languages. (I, personally, would love to see this in Korean too!).

2. If you’re Spanish speaking, fill out a form for us on how you can help

We have lots of questions for Spanish speakers, and we’re hoping to get your feedback!

  • We want to know how much reach we already have into the Spanish speaking communities through people who already read us.
  • We want to know how some of you could help get the word out for us.
  • We want to know your opinion on how best to reach the people that you love and work with.

We have so many questions!

So if you are passionate about getting The Great Sex Rescue out into communities that you’re a part of, please, please, please fill out this form!

(Anyone who is part of a Spanish speaking community, or who works in Spanish speaking communities, or who has “ins” with Spanish speaking communities, would be so helpful with this form!)

We still have a lot of work to do to rescue couples from toxic teachings.

But I don’t want my focus to just be on North America or the English speaking world. More Christians, after all, speak Spanish than English, and they deserve better too.

One of the things I want to start doing in 2025 and 2026 is thinking bigger. How can we be more strategic? And I do think translation is a big part of that. So if you can help, either by donating or by filling out our form, we would be so grateful. And we’ll keep you up to date about what’s happening as we make some decisions going forward!

Why do you think it’s so hard for us to break into the Spanish speaking market? Any ideas as to what we should do? Let’s talk in the comments! (And in our form!)

Hey Sheila and team, I really wish that I could help more, I am surprised at the resistance for publishing the great sex rescue in spanish, since we have already been using the portuguese version here in Brazil for almost a year now. I know that at least here in Brazil there are a lot of very conservative churches, however there is a lot of diversity since we are such a big country. Maybe since the spanish speaking countries are smaller, the conservative complementarian view has dominated more? I know this isn’t of much help, but I’m encouraged to see your endeavor! I can guarentee from my experience living in South America, and knowing the kinds of churches that there are in our neighboring countries, that there is indeed a great need for better teaching!

Thank you so much, Daniel! And if there is ever anything I can do to help get the word out in Brazil about the Portuguese translation, let me know. We’re thinking of raising money to get a podcast arc translated into Portuguese, too, this year. I know there’s such a huge need!
